The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation’s projects use the power of sport, and specifically cricket,  to engage, inspire and motivate individuals to achieve and live positive and healthy lifestyles.

The Foundation prides itself on setting out to achieve its core aims and objectives to help the lives of the people in Derbyshire. Some of the key objectives are listed below:

  • The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of the inhabitants of Derbyshire by the provision of facilities for playing cricket.
  • To act as a resource for young people living in Derbyshire by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of physical, educational and other activities as a means of:
    a) Advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills, capacities, and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals;
    b) Advancing education;
    c) Providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons.
  • To advance education for the public benefit in the history and heritage of county cricket in Derbyshire.
  • To advance the arts in Derbyshire for the public benefit
  • To provide a positive learning environment building confidence, self-esteem, and ambition to succeed.
  • To provide an inclusive range of projects and activities engaging with hard-to-reach groups improving community cohesion.
  • To empower leaders, coaches, and volunteers.
  • To celebrate Heritage of the local community and Cricket in the County.

Walking Cricket

After an overwhelmingly positive response, from all areas of the County, to our questionnaire about physical activity and walking cricket, we organised a block of walking cricket sessions in 2 areas of the County.

DCF Summer Holiday Club

In 2018, the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) launched an ‘Active Kids’ programme in Derwent to increase nutrition and physical activity for children in the local area. This work grew in 2019 to a summer holiday club!

Oral History Project

Led by Heritage Officer David Griffin and local volunteers, the Oral History of Cricket in Derbyshire Project focused on collecting audio-visual reminiscences about cricket at every level within the county, from grassroots to the Test arena.

T20 Walkathon

The T20 Walkathon returns for 2021 and will see fundraisers walk 20 or 5 miles from the Incora County Ground, around some of Derbyshire’s most picturesque countryside and Idyllic cricket clubs, before returning to the ground to watch the Derbyshire Falcons take on the Worcestershire Rapids in the Vitality T20 Blast!

Diwali Festival

The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation hosts an annual fundraising event to celebrate Diwali, with all proceeds to go to the India Club associated with Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

A Journey of Cricket

We invited a number of local Primary schools including Derwent, Dale and Village primary school to take part in an educational day out at the Pattonair County Ground.

Cricket vs Football: A Question of Sport Quiz Night

The 'Question of Sport' quiz night is an annual fundraising event organised by the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation. The contestants usually include representatives from Derby County FC and Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
