The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, in partnership with education provider SCL are proud to announce the launch of the new Derbyshire Cricket College, starting in September 2022. The college will enrol 18 students from across the county aged from 16 -18 years old on a 2-year course combined with cricket training, matches and coaching built into the timetable.
Located at The Incora County Ground, home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, students will benefit from the fantastic training facilities under the guidance and expertise of the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation Coaches while studying for either a NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity
“We are really committed to improving opportunities for young people within Derbyshire and we believe our college programme will be a fantastic place to educate and inspire students in a great teaching environment. The Derbyshire Cricket College will provide not only excellent teaching and education but an opportunity for students to develop their cricket skills and knowledge alongside their study programme. Students will have weekly coaching sessions and match play as well as masterclass sessions delivered by Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s professional players. Whether you’re looking to become a very serious cricketer or a keen club cricketer, the Derbyshire Cricket College will help students realise their potential whilst studying.” Richard Wood – Head of Derbyshire Cricket Foundation
SCL are one of the UK’s leading providers of education through sport and you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification in sport through the college. The curriculum offers a diverse range of projects and modules such as Anatomy and physiology, Fitness testing training, Sports coaching and Health and wellbeing.
The qualification will give graduates a spring board into their future and the opportunity to progress to further education, apprenticeships or a career. The cricket coaching and matches will allow the students to work on all aspects of their game, whilst the holistic benefits that sport can offer such as development of communication, teamwork and self-confidence, will supplement their training and education. Students will also have the opportunity to complete coaching qualifications during the course.
“At SCL we find that combining education with sport and delivering programmes from inspiring sports facilities has a real power for engaging young people. We are delighted to be launching a Cricket College with Derbyshire Cricket Foundation and look forward to making it a first-class experience for all our learners.” Paul Rowlandson, SCL
