Sarah Glenn Called Up to the England Women Squad!!!

Former Derbyshire player, Sarah Glenn, has received a call up to the England Women’s team ahead of their tour of Malaysia starting next month.

Sarah started playing for Derbyshire some 10 years ago, making her way through the women and girls pathway, in that time she became one of the earliest participants in our Emerging Girls programme and made her debut for our Senior Women’s Team in 2013 at the age of 13 years and 10 months. She enjoyed an excellent career at Derbyshire before making the move to Worcestershire at the beginning of the 2019 season.

Andrew Dyson, who was Sarah’s County Age Group Coach at Derbyshire for 6 years commented, ” I had the pleasure of managing / coaching Sarah through her Derbyshire Girls career from U11 to 17s, a very special player being an attacking leg spinner and natural striker of the ball. I enjoyed watching many great performances not least a 100 at U13s and 12 wickets in two days. Sarah always worked hard, asked questions from an early age showing a great understanding of the game, but what also stood out was how well she supported her teammates and shared equally in their successes. Congratulations Sarah, very well deserved and best wishes, I hope you enjoy this wonderful opportunity.”

Dave Moore, current Derbyshire Women and Girls Team Manager added, “It was on a May Bank Holiday Monday in 2010 when I first came across a very young Sarah playing for Derbyshire U13 Girls against Northamptonshire at Wellingborough CC. She was still U11 but, playing 2 years up as she most often did, walked to the crease to bat at no. 7 and promptly hit 2 huge 6’s in her score of 32 off 10 balls. This was obviously a talent to be nurtured and through hard work and dedication has now achieved international recognition, this is home grown talent indeed”.

Head of DCB and Derbyshire Women’s Head Coach, Richard Wood said, “It has been a pleasure to have been a part of Sarah’s development over last 7 years as she has progressed through the Derbyshire Pathway. It was clear to see from an early age that she was a special talent with a fantastic work ethic and attitude to training and match play. Sarah’s recent success in the Kia Super League has demonstrated her ability under pressure and I have no doubt she will go on to have a successful career in the game. I am extremely proud of Sarah and I wish her every success for the future!”
